    2. A good one. Cute lad, great camera work with some intimate closeups. I'm glad he didn't have severe injuries that could disfigure his face or left him bloodied, as that can be tough to watch. I admire this multi-camera documentaries, they seem to have cameras at every corner to capture every moment. I also wonder with these medical reality shows, at what point would they ask permission from the casualty and his family, 'cause I can't imagine being in the middle of this harrowing situation and at that moment being asked to allow a camera record you. Maybe anyone here has an experience with this?

    3. Technically if it's in a public place no permissions are needed though I'm sure in cases like Flynn's they would have asked his parents verbally if they are happy for cameras to be around but no commitment at that time. Before they can use it on TV they would need release papers signed so presumably Flynn and his parents then have a chance afterwards to think about whether they want to agree to it being used on the programme. This would also ask for permission to visit them a week or so after to do the follow up piece that goes at the end.

Not all patients have a follow up so possibly they agreed to the footage being used but didn't want any further involvement after that.

Some of these shows end up with the parents talking to the camera about what happened while still on scene so they must have a chance at a slightly calmer moment to decide if they are willing to do these extra bits. Other shows film this days/weeks after the event.

  2. Would the family get financial compensation for their consent?
So, is it possible the TV crew have done all the work but later none of the footage can be aired due to absence of consent? That really sucks for the crew if that happens.

    1. Not sure if money is involved or not.

Yes I would think it's completely possible to film something and then not get the permissions to show it. But also I'm sure they film loads of incidents that amount to nothing and would bore the audience to show so get dropped that way instead.
