    4. I also would like to see the return of morgue kids. By the way the morgue scene in the Wax Mask is at 00:30:16 and its a 12 year old girl. I think most of those others moregue scenes are boys. Does that matter?

  4. Hospy! Thanks for this video and thank you for voicing all the frustration I can relate with in a special edited video. I feel a bit better knowing I'm not the only one annoyed with all the jump cuts! This video actually has some nice camera angles especially the close-ups. But why oh why they take endlessly long time showing the aunt getting the phone call from the kids, and then quite detailed sequence showing the boy taken out of the car and put on a gurney and pushed into the ambulance...only to then have that boy shown in the background inside the ambulance, and cut to the baby (aargh) and cut to that long, useless speech by the paramedic (whhyyyy??) and then suddenly we see the boy already lost his shirt and his pants ruined. I really can't understand the director's choices, so inconsistent. But thank you again for the video.

    1. Thanks JCH. I'm glad you liked the add-on video too. Out of interest what do you think happened to the shirt?

    2. True story about jump cuts !
How many times I saw videos that could have been excellent and instead they were ruined by jump cuts made in the most inconvenient moments or by very bad camera angles !

    3. Hospy, I believe the shirt was cut off. If you look carefully when the boy is inside the ambulance and the camera sees him from outside (at 7:03) we can see just his head on the gurney and the top part of his shirt can be seen. When the camera look away momentarily and returns to the angle (7:26) we see the boy with already bared shoulders. To take the shirt off without ruining it the paramedics would have to sit him up and pull the shirt off. It doesn't seem there was enough time to do that and it doesn't seem the boy was moved at all (unless the jump cut took away more time than we think). Plus the fact that his pants are torn, plus the fact that the mom's shirt appears to be cut off, and if his shirt is intact, why don't they give it back to him when he visits his mom at the other ambulance? Thus my conclusion.

    4. @Marco I think this clip is a great example of that. It could have been much better. The shots in this one are very good, but it seems that the people who edited it together have ruined it.

    5. @JCH Interesting thoughts :) I did notice those 2 shots while I was making the add-on video. I think though that the time between those 2 shots is a lot longer than the 23 seconds we have of that medic waffling on :P. As for the jeans, They do have a button on them and don't have much stretch so it would have been more difficult to pull them off. The shirt on the other hand is stretchy and could possibly have been pulled off him quite easily? Like you say his mum's shirt was torn but there is evidence that that happened to her, but not evidence that says that the same happened to him. I don't suppose they would of felt it was necessary for him to put his shirt back on when he visited the other ambulance. Plus they were still cooling him down.

  5. There’s a thing that I’ve always wondered:
there’s a reason why in some cases the patient on the stretcher is barefoot, in other cases he wears socks and in other cases he wears shoes?
I tried to pay attention to the type of accident in which the patient was involved: obviously, in cases of drowning, the patient is always barefoot but, for example, in cases of car accidents in some videos, on arrival at the hospital, after transport in the ambulance, the patient is barefoot while in others he still wears shoes or socks. In other cases, it is also shown barefoot at the time of treatment at the accident site (as if he were driving barefoot !!).
I also noticed that some TV shows tend to show more than others, barefoot patients on stretchers: for example, in all saints (of which we have several clips on this blog) the boys on stretchers are always barefoot.
Other opinions or comments on this fact?

    1. Different shows may present these little details differently. And a lot of it may boil down to the type of program that it is. A scripted fiction show may take a lot more artistic license than a medical re-enactment program will, and it can certainly take more artistic license than a True TV "you are there" type program that follows actual paramedics around as they do their job. However, before you let these inconsistencies bother you too much, try to remember that in the case of a life-or-death medical emergency, saving the patient is paramount; so, even though their normal procedure may be to remove shoes and socks from the victim for transport, the paramedics may skip that formality if there is a more pressing need, such as intubating the poor fella or performing CPR on him.

      Delete
    2. Interesting interpretation !
In fact, I had even thought about what it is provided for the actual medical procedure regarding the removal of shoes and socks but I don’t know it and so I could not investigate further. If you know it, I ask you to post it here, please.
In particular: remove shoes and socks (therefore, leave the patient barefoot on the stretcher) is in the procedure? Honestly, I do not think it's exactly that and I say this based on real facts:
      - a few years ago I had to go to the hospital and I was close to the emergency room and, therefore, I could see patients arriving by ambulance. Fortunately, in the time I've been, I've never seen very serious situations (like patients in cardiac arrest): therefore, the people I saw coming were all conscious and not particularly in serious conditions and, therefore, if the medical procedure provided for the removal of shoes and socks for transport, these had to be barefoot when they arrived at the emergency room but, instead, they were still wearing shoes.

This is a picture of a person who was involved in the 2017 Westmister terrorist attack (he’s not dead). You can note that only one victim’s foot has been stripped. Why this ? And also: the victim is in serious condition. Why, then, the paramedics have thought to remove a shoe?

      Delete
    3. I think the foot is also a good place to get a pulse reading from? I suppose if a patient is going to be in a bed, it's certainly more comfortable to have your shoes off. But I would imagine this is more something that happens at the hospital rather than in the ambulance or during treatment. The true life shows that I have seen seem to transport patients with shoes and socks on unless there is a reason for them to be taken off.

Picture - To me it looks like he may well have a leg injury on that side which would explain why that sock is off. It also looks like his trousers are missing from that leg too.

    4. Yes, as far as the real world is concerned, it must be as you say: that is, the patient is removed from shoes only if strictly necessary.
Instead, the doubt remains for the fictional scenes. The only thing that comes to mind is that it is the director or the screenwriter of the video to decide (in a completely arbitrary way) if the patient on the stretcher must be barefoot or with shoes. For example, comes to mind some Every 15 Minutes/Shattered Dreams videos where the injured guys are barefoot (even at the accident site!) while in others videos the boys wear their shoes even when they arrive in the emergency room.
In these cases it is the screenwriter of the video that says: "the victims of the accident must appear barefoot" or the opposite ... but on the basis of what he takes this decision, it is not clear to me.
